The character of the chihuahua

The world’s smallest dog, belonging to the F.C.I. group of companion breeds, is undoubtedly a family- and home-loving dog.
He is very sensitive! He can perfectly understand the “moods” at home and is deeply affected by them. It is a breed that certainly has the prerogative of possessing a lively intelligence, although at times its stubbornness may make it a less obedient dog than others. Never mistake him for a “living room” specimen, he loves to play and run around a lot and when it is not cold he loves to do it outdoors.
He hates winter from which he “defends” himself by sleeping a lot and, if possible, near the radiator or behind a window trying to warm himself with the warm winter sun. He is a cuddly dog, very attached to his owner whom he would follow everywhere!
Many Chihuahuas have a “disproportionate ego,” they feel like “lions” and launch themselves to attack dogs much bigger than they are, and it is up to us owners, very often, to get them out of trouble!!! Indeed, we must keep in mind that this breed is generally not very sociable with other dogs. Instead, he appreciates the company of other Chihuahuas.
Many people advise against the Chihuahua/child combination, but it is not a relationship to be ruled out a priori as long as the dog is not treated as a toy and is left quiet when it feels like resting. Also be careful how he is picked up: with a fall, given his size, he could get seriously hurt.
Another characteristic of the Chihuahua is manifesting his restlessness by shaking, this can happen when he is nervous but also when he is agitated! Of course, the cause of the tremor could also be the cold!
The Chihuahua has excellent hearing, making it an excellent guardian. In conclusion, one must always keep in mind that temperament varies from subject to subject depending on heredity andtraining while maintaining common aspects that are unique characteristics of this breed or as many call it this “little big dog”!
